Ximending: Taipei's Shopping and Culture District 西門町

Often called the ‘Harajuku’ of Taipei, this pedestrian shopping haven is one of the city’s cultural centres, packed with fashion shops, eclectic restaurants, clubs and bars.
Ximending is busiest on weekends and in the evening, so plan your visit around shop hours and bring a bag for purchases. It sits just west of Taipei Main Station, so it is easy to reach on foot once you arrive in the area.
Just west of Taipei Main Station in the historic Wanhua District, Ximending began as a recreation district during the Japanese colonial era. Today it has grown into a cultural icon, with inspiration drawn from its Japanese roots.
One of the most popular destination for tourists, the Ximending Pedestrian Area is the centre of the district, and accessible from Exit 6 of Ximen Station. The area is very popular with tourists and Taipei youth, and, along with shopping and restaurants, also hosts street performances and exhibitions.
