Pingxi 平溪

Pingxi and Shifen are two of several towns along Highway 106, a narrow back road linking southern Taipei and southern Keelung. The Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival is one of the three best-known celebrations held during the Lantern Festival. Since 1999, the Taipei County Government has devoted substantial resources to promoting it as an international, multi-ethnic cultural exchange event. Through the festival, visitors can see the sky lantern tradition and the natural beauty of Pingxi, while offering prayers for prosperity and peace for the nation and its people.

The sky lantern festival draws large crowds, especially around the Lantern Festival, so plan transport and arrival times ahead. Follow local rules when releasing lanterns to keep the area safe.
